◄ Maldwyn- I Will Share Your Road; Open Mal did not know what this place was called, but if he had, he'd find the name apt.
Maelstrom heights. Apt indeed. This was the sort of territory that made wandering fruitless and unpleasant; howling, screeching wind tore at his fur, only recently sleek and less-shaggy with the changing season. A thin summer coat did him no good here; warmth was a passing idea, in these winds. It was unpleasant. Extremely unpleasant. Even Antigone refused to take to the air, and instead huddled on his shoulders, as close to his neck as possible.
But this was not the first unpleasant territory that Mal had crossed, and it likely wouldn't be the last. There was no particular trick to it that he'd found; you just put your head down against the wailing winds and pushed forward as best you could, and rested when you had the chance.
Thus, ears back, that is exactly what Maldwyn did. He stepped carefully, not trusting these unfamiliar slopes. The progress was slow, halting at times, but it was progress nonetheless and that was what he was going to focus on.
The good thing about mountains was that they were craggy, and this mountain was of little exception; as his muscles began to tense up and he began to ache for somewhere to rest, a likely looking spot became apparent along the narrow path he was tracing: a small little area, by fluke sheltered by the wind thanks to the strange shape into which the wind had carved the mountain. Mal picked up speed and made for that place, eager for a break.

She watched him behind long, ink lashes with an even expression on her face. She sympathized with his journey down, remembering the harshness of the Wastes that roared in your ear. A merciless screaming that still rumbled within her mind, though she was far enough in that it was a distance echo. Calla liked it here, though she was merely a ghost. Her new title meant she must get friendly with the locals, but she knew she could not be out too long. The smoke black Queen stepped forth from underneath the shadey rockside, audits flickering forward. There was an ever - growing curiosity pitting in her chest, beckoning her toward the dark draft stranger.
She nickered onward to the man, keeping her guards up but allowing herself an open mind. Not every one here was unpleasant, and the few she had met were nice enough. Maybe he would be just another lonely stranger ... She had met many these past few years.
"Salutations," she called, coming to a stop almost twenty feet away. Calla was unsure if he had even spotted her yet, knowing voices could get lost in canyon walls. "It is much nicer below the winds. I can see you agree." A friendly smile crossed her lips, relaxing her shoulders.

◄ Maldwyn- I Will Share Your Road; CALLA /Open Maldwyn hadn't heard or smelled her approach; the screamingm whipping wind moved too fast to allow such soft noise as hoofsteps, and it was furious enough that multiple smells crossed one's nose for only seconds at a time, yielding only confusion that way. The nicker of greeting is what caled his attention to the stranger, and even that might've been swallowed by the wind if-- mercurial as always-- it hadn't calmed for the barest of seconds at just the right time. He jumped slightly (but only slightly; if you shied here, you might shy right off the edge of the mountain), surprised to have not noticed someone else's approach.
Well, likely, given her next words, she was a local-- so even without this wind she'd've had the advantage of knowing the paths, and thus appearing from nowhere that way. She might not've even intended to sneak up on him, but it was disturbing that he-- who had trained loosely to be a knight, which had included Vigilance- would not notice the presence of another horse. He disliked these mountains even more, for that disadvantage.
Flicking his tail, he glanced the stranger over and then smiled somewhat wanly. She seemed friendly, and that was a very welcome contrast from the temperamental flailing of nature. "I hope so! I won't be staying long in these territories if they stay like this." he said, "Would you mind terribly showing me the way? I'm a stranger here, and I know none of these paths."
The raven huddled uncomfortably on his back shuffled her talons and gave a loud croak of agreement with this plan: she wanted out of this wind and into a saner sky than here.
