"We never know how high we are Till we are called to rise; And then, if we are true to plan, Our statures touch the skies—"
It had started out as a promise to herself some odd moons ago. She had sworn she would allow her life to take root in the next lands she came upon. She had vowed to do all she could to grow and help those within the lands grow as well. She hadn’t planned to end up here but she couldn’t shake the feeling that this was the place she was meant to be. For once the constant need to look over her shoulder had been quelled, the need to turn and run when something went wrong had vanished. The alabaster mare felt at peace, and assured as she made her ascent up the narrow trail of the bluffs, each footfall carrying her higher. Her muscles had stopped burning from the effort of the climb some weeks ago and she had memorized where to place her daggers when the trail narrowed. She often made the climb to the pillar just before the sun rose as she loved seeing the way the light caught the edges of the crystals in the stone. Today was different, there was a weight of responsibility weighing on the mares shoulders but she held her delicate head high. This was her purpose. She was meant to guide and oversee the kingdom of Halcyon and all took refuge here.
Rhys, a taupe and cream owl glided a few yards ahead of the newly appointed Alphess, keeping an aerial view of the scene to insure his companion would meet no danger. The mare appreciated his steady, constant company especially now with this very large and serious task at hand. The pale fae reached the apex of the bluff, the pillar bathed brilliantly in the morning sun, it cast colors upon the rusted earth, a dance of light and color. This pillar was a place of meeting, a place of great importance to not only herself but all of the lands. Halcyon had no castles, no walls for whispered voices to hide behind, it was only the pillar, a beacon of Halcyon that glowed with every color, welcoming all who wished to seek it. As Atlanta stood before it she felt as solid as the earth beneath her hooves, she felt at home. She inhaled deeply and closed her eyes, dispelling the air from her overburdened lungs. Her eyelids lifted, revealing her violet and blue swirled orbs which now traced their way to the top of the zenith. She let herself enjoy the peace and quiet and reflected upon what was about to happen. Another deep breath and she let her feet carry her to the crumbling edge of the bluff, her gaze sweeping over the vast meadows that flowed beneath her, the blue green color made it seem like running water when the wind blew. This place was her home. Something she hadn’t had since she was young. It was hers to protect and to care for and the realization brought a swell of pride to the mare. She stood tall and turned her gaze upwards trumpeting a loud call that echoed over the meadow and against the rocky bluffs. It was time to meet her fellow Halcyonians.

The dark colored mare let the sun warm her flank. Today was a good day. Singing softly, Nouveau tet her golden eyes scan the horizon. Peaceful. Something she had been searching for ever since Tipsy had passed a full 2 years ago. She had been a wanderer, a nomad. Just like when she was with the mare who birthed her, Jane. Nouveau never called her anything, she rarely talked about her. Nouveau hadn't even kept the name given to her at her birth. As soon as she had become a part of Tipsy's home, she changed it - Nouveau, a name that Tipsy had chosen for her. However no one knew that, and no one ever would. One of the many secrets she kept close to her heart. Feeling the peace return to her, Nouveau pushed the rotten memories to the back of her mind. She had a fresh start and she planned to use every ounce of it. Maybe she would even make a friend or two.
Shifting her eyes, she studied the clearing. Far ahead she could see the pillar where she assumed meetings of some sort took place. She had explored most of the land without running into anyone, and this was one of the only areas with something that could work as a meeting place although she could be completely off base. Perhaps there was another place and she just hadn't found it. Even so, her gut told her to stay here and sooner or later someone will show up. She just hoped it was sooner then later. She always hated being alone. She wasn't afraid to be alone, she just enjoyed the company of others. Watching the pillar of glimmering rock, she squinted as she saw movement. Was someone out there? Hesitation spiked through her veins. What should she do? Glancing behind her, she was only a few steps away from being hidden within the trees, she could easily slip back and wait to see what happened. Or she could be brave and stay where she was. She had already claimed this kingdom as her home. Could they really chase her out?
Scolding herself, Nouveau stayed where she was. Watching intently she listened as a call came from the direction of the figure. Smiling to herself, she gave a figurative pat on the back on not tucking tail and running to be hidden from view. The new comer must be the ruler of the land. Shaking her mane, Nouveau started to make her way towards the pillar of the future. Today was going to be a good day.

Bucephalus had spent most of the young day grazing, lazily meandering from one part of the meadow to another with little to show for his day's productivity save for some blades of grass stuck to his muzzle. The spring sun warmed his back and reflected off of the blade that ran from poll to withers, silver and pristine. Halcyon had been kinder to his stomach than the previous places he had been, and his coat seemed to shine with a renewned gleam as his body processed the more nutritious local plants. He hadn't eaten meat in days, but to him that was preferable to hunting and killing potential parents of spring children that might be out searching for food or watching over their young. It nearly made him ill when he had to do something like that. Now, he was not so desperate.
The call that had rang out across the fields had been so distant that the stallion supposed it must have been the cry of some other animal, but as his ears swiveled to capture it, he realized it was that of another equine. His muscular form rippled as he raised his gallant head, glassy blue eyes squinting in the direction the sound had come from. That was towards the bluffs, wasn't it? Perhaps it was something important. Bucephalus set off at a thundering canter - his body had been made for heavy steps and carrying a storm's rumble behind him. It took him a good long while to get to where he could see the bluffs on the horizon, but his newly energized body carried him along swiftly and a gallop now, carrying him closer until he could see the delicate white form atop the cliff. Familiar lavender points contrasted with the alabaster coat, and as he made it to the edge of the clearing, realization came upon him: Atlanta. The mare he had met only once stood high above him, and as his nostrils widened to inhale, it became clear that another steed stood within in the area as well. He turned to look for her, he smelled a mare, and as his blue eyes slid across the forest backdrop he found her, a stripy brown thing hugging the tree shadows for comfort. A near inaudible hmph escaped his throat, although it was more of acknowledgement rather than disdain. The stranger must be just as curious.
The great black stallion drew closer to the pillar beneath which he had first met the cloud-white mare atop the bluffs. She said nothing, not yet, anyway, but he could wait all day to hear what exactly she was doing there. Anyway, the grass was soft underfoot, and he imagined it would make a swell meal if the waiting got too long.

P Y R A Pyra had not done much worth noting since arriving in her new home. The chaos of her old herd—her brother’s herd—had not followed her here. For that, she was grateful. No, here, she could focus on the smell of the grass, the warmth of the sun on her back, the relief of knowing that she could start over fresh. And that was what she fully intended to do. With a faint grin, she walked across the bluffs at a measured beat, heading toward no destination in particular. The morning had been pleasant and quiet, save for the occasional murmuring trill from Aiden as he glided overhead. The only other ambiance came from the faintest rustling of the wind through the cliffs, and in this gentle harmony Pyra found herself lost in her own thoughts. So when a call rang out across the hills, loud and clear, the red roan mare did not notice it instantly. The sound took a moment to register in her mind, but once it did, Pyra was certain of its purpose. It was a summons, plain and simple. She lifted her blazed face, ears working. Her hooves moved toward the sound before she beckoned them to, but she did not try to resist. Quite the opposite, she was curious. At a more rapid pace than before, she trotted onward, succumbing to the draw of the call. The pillar, adorned with gemstones, came into view before long. Pyra had noticed it on the horizon before, though she had made no attempt to visit it in person. She was in no rush to the uncover all the mysteries of her new home. There was no fun in that. There was, however, fun in wondering who the mare on the bluff was. Pyra had not seen her before, though with the way she stood tall beside the shimmering pillar, she had to wonder if the white equine ruled these lands. Others were here, too—an imposing black stallion and a smaller, brindle mare skirting the edge of the woods. Clearly, they had come in response to the call as well. With a polite dip of her head, Pyra acknowledged them before she turned to the one beside the pillar again. "Greetings," she said, stepping closer, though not quite as close as the stallion. She watched the ivory mare with unconcealed curiosity, perhaps a bit of respect, too. If she was to be their leader, Pyra was all for making good first impressions. She kept her golden eyes squared on her, waiting to hear what the white mare might have to say and wondering in the meantime if any others might join them.

"We never know how high we are Till we are called to rise; And then, if we are true to plan, Our statures touch the skies—"
She felt as if she might be glowing, perhaps it was the warmth of the morning sun radiating off of her pearl hide or perhaps it was something more. It had been a glimmer in her heart for many years, the knowledge of knowing there was a place for her out there, but now that glimmer had turned into an inferno and it filled her with an overwhelming sense of pride. Her violet blue gaze scanned the area closely, watching each equine as they arrived, studying their faces intently.
First came a small mare, the color of bronze with beautiful stripes upon her bodice, she had appeared out of the tree line and Atlanta wondering silently just how long the brindle fae had been waiting in those shadows. She seemed hesitant but jovial and pleasant. Her eyes strayed further as more equine came, in their midst was something that caused the Alphess to smile, a familiar face amongst the crowd. Bucephalus, the same unreadable stallion she had met in this exact spot some weeks ago. He was immediately recognizable, his muscled metallic black hide and bladed mane shone in the sun but Atlanta immediately sought out his glowing blue eyes, taking comfort in the fact that she wasn’t completely among strangers. Near to him was a small red roaned mare with unabashed curiosity upon her features, though it was not the disrespectful sort. This piqued the alabaster femmes interest, it was nice to see someone who wore their feeling blatantly upon their sleeves. She appeared to have a hawk companion and Atlanta’s gaze moved quickly up to Rhys. Violet blue eyes moved back to the roan only to find she had not broken eye contact. Atlanta wanted to know more about this mare and she made a mental note to speak with her.
She took a step towards the crowd, feeling the breeze catch her violet dipped strands. She should say something, she hadn’t rehearsed anything, hadn’t prepared a single word. The mare inhaled and took a moment to lock eyes with each individual equine that stood before her and then she bowed, lowering the front half of her bodice, her knee bent to the soil, forelock kissing the terra. She rose steadily, feeling Rhys, her owl companion, settle gracefully upon her wither, ruffling his feather, encouraging her to speak.
“Good morning, my fellow Halcyonians” She started, her voice even and light
“Many of you might not know me. I am Atlanta, the Alphess of Halcyon. I have called you here today because I would like to meet each and every one of you. I do not wish to hide up in a tower like they do in Asteria. I do not wish to rule you with strict codes and regulations as they do in Kairos. I will not keep secrets as the Boreans do. I will not look down at you as inferiors but instead I will look directly in your faces as equals. I wish only that Halcyon be a land in which even the most broken of souls can find safety. I am asking each of you not to follow me, but to stand at my shoulder in the face of good and bad days. I am asking each of you to rise up and find the purpose that this life has to offer you and to turn to your comrades next to you and to help them rise as well. You are all welcome and appreciated here and it makes my heart overjoyed to have the privilege of being here to guide you.” Her voice didn’t waiver or falter and she missed no beats. There was a power in her voice she had never known before, an assuredness that let the truth she had always known in her heart flow forth like water from her lips. Her eyes steeled with resolve, their edged softs with the hope she felt staring at her her.
“Please, come forth. I would like to meet all of you” Atlanta beamed, her smile warm and welcoming.

Nouveau watched as two more horses came into view. The first was a stallion, his pelt was painted black. His mane was not made of hair but made of something shiny and silver. He would tower of her small frame if he stood next to her. His build was very sturdy, muscle lining every section of it. The next horse she saw was a mare, not much taller then Nouveaus size. Her body had a red coloration, dusted with different shades, both dark and light, going from her legs to her rump. Her mane and tail were a very pretty copper color with lighter ends. interesting. Shifting her stance, Nouveau let her eyes return to the white mare as she began to speak.
Hearing her voice for the first time, Nouveau soaked in the words. She spoke of how the different kingdoms ruled their lands. She didn't know much about the other kingdoms, other then she had passed through them briefly while she was looking for her new home. Nouveau had defiantly felt more at home here, within Halycon, then any of lands. As the mare, Atlanta, stopped speaking Nouveau pulled her attention back on the her. Atlanta had paused, as she let her eyes settle on each horse in attendance. Dropping her gaze, Nouveau perked up again as Atlanta started to speak again.
"Please, come forth. I would like to meet all of you." Nouveau glanced to the others. Taking a step forward, Nouveau lifted her head. My name is Nouveau she said softly, letting her eyes rest on Atlanta.

phaedra who in the world am i? ah, that's the great puzzle Phaedra had spent far too long blissfully ignorant to the herd that surrounded her. Halcyonians were a quiet people that kept to themselves, but Phae had never felt unwelcome by them. In truth, she felt bad for not acknowledging the herd sooner. With a soft sigh, the woman resigned herself to her gloomy day and pressed toward the call of her leader.
Having never visited the Myriad Pillar, climbing toward it made her uneasy. Her stomach churned with the general nervousness of one about to meet a group of strangers. A slight, winking bat of her eyes was her only giveaway - otherwise, Phae was the picture of perfect health. She smiled when she was smiled to and cried when they pretended to look away. An image everyone was willing to look at, but unwilling to accept.
With a deep, inconsistent breathe, the pale mauve woman stepped onto the bluff. She observed several before, all unique and startling in their individual skins. Gulping back a shudder, Phae walked forward with her delicate head high. A small smile curled her lips. She was tad bit late, but she was gracious.
Phaedra caught the speech who was to be her leader. She dipped her head, purple eyes sparkling with genuine curiosity. After a woman - known as Nouveau - introduced herself, Phaedra did the same. Softly, she cleared her throat and smiled, “My name is Phaedra, it is a pleasure to meet you.” She was glad to be ruled by one so humble, though concerned about the rumblings of the land. She tilted her head and stepped back, brushing aside the worries she had no business thinking of. ATLANTA Nouveau Pyra Bucephalus Aliviyah
